Dear Leaders of Clubs, Organizations, Churches or other faith groups:

I come to you on behalf of the local Area Council of the Navy League, a group of civilians who meet monthly in support of the men and women of the Sea Services.  You may be familiar with our sponsorship of the annual Military Appreciation Picnics in September and Veteran’s Day programs in November.  In addition we sponsor a Navy Sea and Shore Sailor’s and Marine Corps Soldier’s of the Year Luncheon and Welcome Home events.

I would like to invite you and your clubs, orgainizations, churches, fellowships or faith groups to consider remembering the Navy, Marine Corps and the Merchant Marine in your thoughts and/or prayers and/or in worship annually in the months of October or November.  The Navy's birthday is 13 October [1775] and the Marine Corps birthday is 10 November [1775].  Additionally if singing is included I’d like to suggest a verse or 2 or more [of the nearly dozen and a half] that have been added to “Eternal Father, Strong to Save” affectionately referred to as “The Navy Hymn.”  Verses can be found on the web at: http://www.history.navy.mil/faqs/faq53-1.htm
